The latest of our Photo Story winners are the ladies from Celebratelife SA, who raise funds via various extreme sports events to uplift rural women (find them on facebook @celebratelifesa global and twitter @celebratelifeSA)
On 12th September 2017, 7 gutsy girls set out for a 28km paddle in hard plastic kyaks across Lake Malawi to raise funds for our oven project in the rural communities, where we emphasise women empowerment and build women entrepreneurs in the communities, allowing them to own their own bakery, baking 4 loaves of bread every 25 minutes. We trained as a team for 6 months and had such awesome fun together. No one in the team had been a paddler so it was a gruelling task crossing that vast lake but an experience we will carry with us as a team forever. We have previously climbed Kilimanjaro, Mount Meru and run the Lewa Marathon in Kenya, raising funds for various initiatives. The joy of building a team like this is watching people grow who have never faced challenges like this before, they are totally outside their comfort zone and they learn so much about themselves and others!
