Pietermaritzburg Girls High School grade 12’S discuss challenges facing women in sport

    By girlsonly | Newsroom | 0 comment | 23 June, 2016 | 0

Our ambassadors, Bongi Msomi and Phumza Maweni, ran another successful workshop with over 200 girls from PMB GHS on Tuesday. These workshops are opportunities to conduct valuable research and are used as a platform for the ambassadors to share their stories about being female athletes. This is done in order to open up discussion regarding women in sport issues. Bongi notes that she has learnt so much herself from talking with the girls and sharing her experience, “I wish I had someone talk to me about these things when I was at school! It’s been incredible to see how eager the girls are to discuss issues they face in the sporting world. They really open up about various challenges such as not being happy with their bodies, being afraid of being judged if they play sport and having to cope with cultural expectation of being a woman”

Other workshops have been run at Inanda Seminary, Luthayi High School and at the annual KZN DSR youth camps.
